The NASCAR Nationwide Series Dollar General 300 race was held on July 11, in Chicago, Illinois in front of approximately 100,000 fans. The Interush #30 Chevrolet had a strong team behind it with new and experienced crew chief in Ricky Pearson. Interush CEO, Marty Matthews and COO, Todd Mitsuishi were also in attendance.

Stanton Barrett, driver of the Interush #30 Chevrolet had long meetings with Pearson on the setup and strategies for the race. Stanton commented, “It was great to have a respected crew chief like Ricky giving me advice during practice.” And during the television broadcast on ESPN, Stanton was featured and interviewed before a national television audience of millions of fans. Stanton said it was a great opportunity to get exposure for the Interush brand.
After passing inspection, it was up to Stanton to qualify the car to make the race. The Interush #30 Chevrolet had trouble on the 1st lap but recovered and qualified easily on the 2nd lap. Stanton also entered a 2nd car with the Interush logos, the #31 Chevrolet driven by Kenny Hendrick who also qualified. “It was a tough but I was able to concentrate and get the car in the race” said Stanton. The cars qualified in 28th and 29th positions and lined up side by side for the start of the race.

The signal that the race was about to start was the appearance of the United States Air Force jet fighter planes which flew across the sky. The Interush #31 Chevrolet was in the race to test some new setups so after 20 laps, it left the race in good condition. Using his experience and skills, Stanton moved from 28th place all the way up to 7th place and all the indications were that he was ready for a Top 10 finish.
Then Stanton’s car all of sudden slowed down and was making a strange noise from the engine. The Interush #30 Chevrolet was brought into the garage where it was discovered that a part in the engine had broken. Stanton said, “It was really bad luck that we had this happen since we had a really good car which was tuned up very well. This was a new engine and it was performing well until it broke all of a sudden.”
The final result of the Chicago race was not as expected but the progress made by the Interush Racing Team can been seen and there was good exposure for the Interush brand. Stanton hopes the lessons learned from this race to be the keys to success in the remaining races this season.
